Fire Station Artist in Residence, 2016-2017
Ahmed Al Jufairi is a Qatari Artist who has graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar majoring in Painting and Printmaking. Long before he was a student he had an intense interest in Beyoncé G. Knowles. He has taken his Beyoncé infatuation whilst in university and magnified the obsession. Now Ahmed focuses on various ways to express his thoughts, emotions, opinions and ideals through the inspiration of his surrounding culture, his past and does not shy from the use of colors. The mediums he uses vary from oil painting, performance videos, etchings, screen prints, digital prints and sculpture. Ahmed's strange work has led him to have his first Solo Exhibition a week after graduating and he has earned all the success that followed by hard work and devotion.
Ahmed's work is seen as contemporary, pop inspired and conceptual, he puts great thought into the meanings behind his pieces and likes to focus on the idea of subliminal messaging. With the magnified research aspect he believes the quality of the work should reflect the idea behind it and the effort put into creating should be equally exhausting in all of the process.
